I started my birth control pills (the mini pills) last monday January 26, in the first week on Thursday i missed my pill but took it the next morning when i remembered and i took friday a few hours late. I had unprotected sex on monday 2nd and also missed my pill that night and tuesday night. I took monday pill and wednesday pill at the same time and i plan on taking tuesday pill with thursday pill today... am i at a high risk of pregnancy for missing more than 2 pills in the first 2 weeks??

Hello Nhiza,

Are you still vomiting?

Use an alternate form of birth control, such as condoms, if you have intercourse now.

Hello Anonymous,

Your risk depends on how many pills you miss and when you miss, such as which week of active pills.

When you miss a dose, you need to take the missed dose as soon as you realize it. That can mean taking two pills in one day and that is okay.

Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Missing too many doses in a row, specifically going seven consecutive days without an active pill, puts you at risk.

All that you can do now is wait for the week you take the inactive pills and see if you have vaginal bleeding.

Hi lindseyD,

As I mentioned in my reply of February 5, you are at risk if you miss seven consecutive days of active hormone containing pills.

I urge you to consult your gynecologist regarding your risk for pregnancy and the affect of missing six mini pills during the first two weeks of the pack. Follow your doctor's recommendation.

Maryann

Hi lindseyD,

If you do not start your period by the time you finish taking the last week of birth control pills, which should be the inactive non hormone pills, please contact your gynecologist.

You will want to know if you should test for pregnancy before starting a new pack.

Maryann

Hello lindseyD,

You did the right thing by doubling up on the dose once you realized that you had missed a dose. I think there is a very low risk of pregnancy.

You are at high risk if you miss seven consecutive days of active, hormone containing pills.

Lindsey, if you find that you are having trouble remembering to take your birth control pills consistently, talk with your gynecologist about other options, such as an IUD or Depo-Provera injections.

Regards,
Maryann
