How long should I wait to get colon hydrotherapy ?

I had undergone a hysteroscopy and laproscopic myomectomy procedure for removal of uterine fibroid on 20th Feb 2014. I am having troubles with my bowel movement and had severe constipation couple of days ago.. I am on stool softener but I don't want to create dependency on laxatives and softeners, considering that I have always had weak stomach and intestines. So I was thinking of undergoing colon hydrotherapy. However I am not sure what's the best waiting time period before I get one.

Hi being positive,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. Colon cleansing has a long history and is an alternative to modern medicines. The theory behind cleaning your colon for centuries was that cleansing out the colon can reduce toxins that get trapped in your bowels. There are different sources that can help achieve that goal which includes:

  • http://css.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets/site_images/modul...); background-position: 0px 4px; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">Laxatives-both stimulant and non stimulant types
  • http://css.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets/site_images/modul...); background-position: 0px 4px; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">Herbal teas
  • http://css.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets/site_images/modul...); background-position: 0px 4px; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">Enzymes

Here is my concern though...I am uncertain as to the reason why this suddenly occurred. Are you on medication after your surgery? Pain medication is often the first culprit of constipation. So since there may be secondary reason why the constipation occurred and if you try to relieve the colon - without proper medical advice, you may just cause another issue or concern. Talk to your treating physician for the best possible solution and a checkup may be necessary. Many of the solutions for constipation can cause severe cramping in the stomach area and I am sure you are not looking for that as a solution. Do yourself a favor and followup with your physician before you make any decision.

Best of luck and keep us posted on what your treating physician tells you.

Hi Missie, thank you for the reply. My gynecologist wasn't really alarmed when I brought up constipation issue post surgery. She has advised Duphalax-Lactulose (Laxative) and Cremafinn(stool softener). Over the coming weekend I will try to avoid them to see if I can function without it.
Also I will certainly take medical advice before doing colon hydrotherapy. Planning to consult a gastroenterology expert sometime next month. Thanks once again.
