Q:

How long does hidradenitis suppurativa boils last, is this to be expected every month?

Over the last few years I noticed boils, (armpits, breasts and groin area) usually a different area each month. These boils appear around the time that I would have had my periods. The boils on the groin are painful. I fear that a vein or vessel may get infected. Is there something which I could take, such as vitamins, foods, liquids?? to decrease the outbreak. I have been going through menopause for three years now, and do not care to take any hormone replacement drugs. My family doctor is aware of my condition, although I hesitate to show the boils on the groin area. What can you suggest in the line of natural threapy?

I too just started getting a boil the same time my period starts. Perimenopause is my guess. Tumeric is the key. I also use it as a paste and the boil opens up extremely quickly depending on it's size and the whole thing is over within 2 days instead of weeks. Highly recommend the tummeric paste!!!

since reading your post I have since bought the organic india turmeric on amazon. and i did use it a few times as a paste and was absolutely amazed with the results of the paste!!! thanks for the info. My husband is Gluten free because of a wheat allergy. I don't know if I could do it. I cook GF but have occasional gluten things with my kids. it's so hard to change of to strictly GF. i'm sure the pills would help me more if I were to actually take them everyday! I am always forgetting.

Since reading your comment I too have started taking turmeric. I had a monster come up in my arm pit and yesterday morning I made the paste and applied it with a waterproof bandage and just tonight I took the bandage off and it's draining!! And draining like crazy!! I applied a hot compress and put a clean bandaid on. With the open "hole" I like to keep it covered because it hurts so much.
Thank you for the Info. Next is to go gluten free. It seems so impossible.
I've been doing rather well with minimal breakouts for about a year and then within the last month it's gone crazy with flair ups in my thighs, groin and underarms.

I started getting these hs boils a few years ago. I had no idea what they were . They would pop up on my butt or panty line and always gave me hell. I finally found out what it was and read that turmeric helped. So I picked up some capsule from the store for super cheap and started taking 1 a day. ( it's so good for you in so many other ways , every day isn't a problem) and I stopped getting them completely. Not one. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence since ive never be a die hard firm believer in homeopathic remedies and stopped taking them once I ran out of the first bottle. And within 2 weeks a boil popped up. I knew then the turmeric had been working and immediately picked up another bottle. Its been 4 months since I purchased my second bottle and I haven't had a single boil. It really works!!

Hidradenitis is an auto- immune condition. It's grouped together with psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. I've had it since I was a kid, I'm thirty now. The times that it seemed to go into remission were when I was very strict on my diet, eating mostly a paleo diet, and eating some kind of probiotic. I used to drink Kefir. I haven't been being careful with my diet and have had a flare up. I'm going to try drinking Kombucha and see what effect that has if any.

Hi all, I have had hidradenitis suppurativa for over 13 years, but only got a diagnosis (by chance) when I saw an obstetrician in New Orleans (I am British). None of the previous doctors or surgeons who operated on it, ever diagnosed it in all those years. I am currently using an autoimmune diet to heal my body and more recently I have succumbed to using the strong antibiotics combo of Rifampicin and Clindamycin, prescribed by a dermatologist. It's a 10 week course. The relief is immense and I have my life back for the first time in years. No pain, no leaking. Nothing! It doesn't appear to work for everyone and whilst I haven't been as strict with my diet whilst I've been on them, I do notice that I start to flare if I eat any of my trigger foods, even with the antibiotics.
Please have a read of my blog, if you's like to know more. I am not selling anything, just sharing my experience and the resources I have used to help me tackle this disease. It's healing hidradenitis dot com.
Hope you enjoy it :)
