Diabetic need to fast for labwork. How long?

Hi Anonymous and thanks for your question.

If you've been instructed to fast before a lab test it means you should fast (no food or drink except for water)  for up to eight hours before your appointment. The reason for this is to support  the accuracy of test results which could be tainted by ingredients in food and drink. Unless your doctor says otherwise, take your usual medications. After your test or tests are done you will, of course, be able to eat or drink right away so you may want to bring a snack with you or make plans for a nice meal. Hope all goes well, Pat
