My girlfriend had this put in right after the birth of our Son, and over the course of the last 3 years her sex drive is completely gone just about. Before this God forsaken piece of plastic she worked 3 jobs and was always in the mood to have sex, now she doesn't work half as much and is never in the mood.
I love her to death but it's getting really bad that she is getting moody a lot as well when I bring this stuff up.
I know sex isn't everything in a relationship, but it is an important part of a relationship.
This damn thing has caused so much grief........... I miss my girl friend before Mirena.
Guys take my advice DON'T LET YOUR GIRL GET THIS!!

We saw the same thing and it was terrible. My partner had it taken out at an early convenience. All the wonderful things we had lost when it was put in, came back within a few days, and we will be marrying late this summer.

How much can we thank this blog for helping us? I can't properly express my appreciation. I think that files under "life-changing" posts here. Thx EmpoweHER, though it was the guy in this relationship that found you.

After getting my mirena removed, it took about 6 weeks before I felt normal again. Headaches gone, sex drive back and less mood swings. So don't get discouraged if you get it removed, and don't get results in 2 days.

My husband and i are literally laying side by side in bed right now not speaking to each other because i NEVER want to have sex. I ha e had my Mirena for 6 years and i am an emotional wreck. My sex drive is non existent. I could care less if i ever had sex again. I was starting to question my marriage and my emotional stability, but after reading this i believe its time to get this stupid thing taken out. I enjoy not having a period, ever, but not at the expense of having my marriage ruined. Thank all of you for reassuring me that im not losing my mind.

The iud, the implant and the depo shot all lower my libido to the point that my marriage suffers. I took these different forms of birth control for a combined time of about 9 years, and my sex drive was virtually gone.

my wife had her Mirena IUD removed 2 weeks ago. I was very hopeful that her libido would return, but so far nothing. Guess we need to head to a counselor for intimacy issues.

Yes, i do agree with the impact on sex libido but one of the reason is the sharp drop in estrogen, so i ask my wife to drink soy milk & within few days her libido start to come back again, the hunger feeling reduced sharply, the mood swinging reduced. But be carful not to increase estrogen too high, just keep it within normal range.
half cup a day would be enough

Good luck

Thank you for this wonderful suggestion. It has worked tremendously and I am starting to feel like myself again. I never would have thought to drink soy milk daily. THANK YOU!!!

I have had the mirena for almost 2 years now and my sex drive is so low. I miss it. I may have sex once every 3 months. My poor fiance wants it. But I always get snappy and don't want to be touched :( maybe u should get it removed...

I really glad I came across this article. I thought I was losing my mind. I've become extremely irritable, anxiety, horrible acne, mood swing and absolutely no sex drive. I thought it was possibly postpardum but after talking with the doctor you typically experience that within the first 6 weeks after having a child, and my daughter is 9 months old. It hasn't helped that my husband is bipolar and therefore when we are both in a mood swing I definitely get depressed. Unfortunately, I realized that it might be my IUD a couple weeks ago and will have it removed in about 3 more weeks (earliest appt that they had). I really hope that I can get back to normal because I can't handle this.
