A contusion is another word for a bruise. It happens when small blood vessels break open and leak blood into the nearby area. A hip contusion can result from a bump, hit, or fall. Symptoms of a contusion often include changes in skin color (bruising), swelling, and pain.
A bruised hip will generally heal on its own and sometimes requires no medical treatment at all. What did your doctor say?
There are home remedies that may help.
-Rest. Limit your movement.
-Ice. Apply an ice pack or cool compress to the affected area for 20 minutes every 4 hours.
-Elevate. Raise your hip above the level of your heart as frequently as possible. This helps to decrease swelling and pain.
-You may also want to take an over-the-counter pain reliever (if you can take them) such as acetaminophen (Tylenol). If you have swelling and pain, anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), can help with this.
