The scab should not be picked. You risk infection by doing so, which might be causing the odor you mention. Follow up with your dermatologist. In the meantime, keep the area clean with soap and water and apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment if necessary, to help with healing. Your doctor can advise you further.
