Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs can often help ease the pain of osteoarthritis. Injections of corticosteroids or hyaluronic acid into the knee are sometimes needed when medication alone is not enough. Some alternative therapies that may be effective include topical creams with capsaicin, acupuncture or supplements, including glucosamine and chondroitin or SAMe. See your doctor for more treatment options which might include physical therapy or surgery depending on the severity.
