First and foremost, you did nothing wrong. Research shows that some guys feel it's more difficult to stay hard when using condoms. It could be because of physical things happening while placing the condom on, the decline in stimulation due to the interruption, or it can be mental. There could be a concern about losing their erection when putting on the condom or it not feeling right that ultimately ends up making that happen.
Again, it's not your fault and really not your problem to solve. But if you're boyfriend discusses it with you and is open to help, you can share the above link with him.
