Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us with your question.

Did your surgeon offer any other treatment options to you?

The treatment depends on the size and location of both the fibroid and cyst.

Generally, medication that target the hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle are prescribed to treat the symptoms associated with uterine fibroids. They do not eliminate the fibroids but may cause them to shrink.

MRI guided focused ultrasound surgery is a noninvasive treatment option for uterine fibroids that preserves your uterus, requires no incision and is done on an outpatient basis.

Uterine artery embolization cuts off blood flow to fibroids, causing them to shrink and die. This technique can be effective in shrinking fibroids.

If you have multiple fibroids, very large fibroids or very deep fibroids, your doctor may use an open abdominal surgical procedure to remove the fibroids.

Talk with your doctor and ask if you are a candidate for other treatment options.

Regards,
Maryann
