Hello Jessica,

Thank you for your question. Many other women may be asking these same two questions.

Permanent mascara involves a lash coating process. The process adds definition to the eyelashes by darkening the color of each lash, and adds thickness and curl. Unlike using traditional mascara, the look with permanent mascara will not come off with crying, swimming or perspiring at the gym.

The service is provided by a certified artist. One company, The Total Lash Service, offers the LashDip permanent mascara system. According to that website, a blacker-than-black gel eyelash coating is applied by a certified trained professional meticulously to each lash and then cold air cured into place.

This semi-permanent product can last up to six weeks.

Products contain conditioners, such as glycerin, aloe, and glycol.
The pigment agent is carbon black, which the FDA approved in cosmetic use in 2004.

Cost can range from $80 to $400.

There appear to be no side effects. During the procedure, the client's eye remain closed and gel pads cover the skin surrounding the eye area.

On rare occasion, a mild stinging sensation may occur during application if the client opens her eyes. Sensation ceases within a few seconds after eyes are closed. Redness of the eye may occur immediately following procedure but disappears within a few minutes.

I hope is the information you were looking for.

Regards,
Maryann
