This is true, but it must be done with plain yogurt. You may use an applicator, but make sure that it is absolutely clean--in fact, brand new. The great thing about using a tampon is that it is sterile and has the attached string so that you can leave it in for a bit, then easily remove. It can also be more soothing to dip the tampon into the plain yogurt, freeze it, and then insert it.
It is entirely up to you whether you want to use the tampon or applicator, just make sure it is clean because the last thing you want is to introduce more bacteria.
