According to my parents I had a very time with whole milk as a child. A possible link to PR? I would be curious to know if others out there suffering from PR have had a similar experience. My personal (Not a medical physician) opinion would be to have him get loads of play time outside if possible. Obviously be aware of all the risks that poses, and use sunscreen as needed. I only say this, because nearly everyone I have come across with PR have great deals of success with sunlight exposure.

Can you tell us more about the actual rash itself? I am assuming you have goggled images and came here because it resembles what your son has, but are the spots slightly raised surface, possibly flaky, and vibrant red?

It's not unheard of for kids as young as yours have get PR, but I want to say statistically speaking, that it occurs most often in late teens onward.

Also, are there any spots on the palms of his hands or on the soles of his feet? If so, I would strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist, because that is NOT very typical of PR.

Best of luck to you and your son!
