Thank you for your question! I am sorry to hear about your finger pain, and the complications it is causing for you. There are many things one can do for joint pain, but each therapy is very individual. What works for one type of joint pain may not work for another. The best way to reduce pain, is to first understand the cause of the pain. (This is the tricky part). Are your index finger joints red or inflammed at all? Do you have more pain in the mornings or is the pain only after some kind of direct contact with the joint?

Some joint pain can be explained with the results of a blood test. Other strategies might include testing certain therapies out and waiting for positive results with pain reduction, like heat or cold therapies. (Heat usually has many positive results with decreasing joint stiffness). Also. certain creams or balms may help reduce some pain. (I have tried Tiger Balm & I love it. It is a little expensive and comes in a tiny jar, but I have had the same tiny jar for over 6 months!) Other possibilities include diet and nutritional supplement options for joint health.

WebMD has a great Health Center that talks about caring for joints. Many different types of arthritis and common therapies are located along the left margin of the cite : http://arthritis.webmd.com/caring-your-joints

Hope this information helps and best of luck!
