Regardless if it's an inch or the full length of his penis, it's sex. It is unclear if it was your hymen as many times the hymen already is broken even before engaging in sex. Also, you were having your period, so it could have been that as well.
In the future, you may want to be sure, instead of "pretty sure," your partner is using a condom. Engaging in sexual intercourse without contraception does increase your risk of contracting STD/STIs and getting pregnant. Having sex with multiple partners increases these risks.
