Unless you use some type of birth control, regularly and correctly, there is a potential for getting pregnant if you have sexual intercourse.

Why- because sperm is so tiny that you cannot see it. Because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. As long as a guy's penis enters your vagina or comes in contact with your outer genitals (labia), there is a chance that sperm is released and enters your body.

The exact time that one of your ovaries releases an egg is not known, usually it happens about 2 weeks before the start of your period.

When sperm meets an egg, conception happens and you are pregnant.
