Initial reports were that, based on the bindings found on his body, the actor died from autoerotic asphyxiation. However, Dr. Baden, the forensic pathologist hired by Carradine's family and who conducted a second investigation to the first autopsy, stated asphyxiation as the cause of death without making a definitive association with autoerotic behavior, but ruling out suicide.

We only know what the media has reported, unfortunately.
