Thank you for your story. My brother (51 years old) was diagnosed in March 2014, and passed away only 3 week later on April 9th. I was very angry because he spent a week in one hospital, but all they told him was the he had stage 4 PC and to see the oncologist to have a port installed for chemo. He was sent home with only oral pain meds and really no other treatment or pain management options. He got so sick during the week he was out of the hospital that his kidneys shut down due to sever dehydration. He was brought into our local hospital and for another week we watched his body fill up with fluid. They finally decided to drain the fluid after 6 days. What was so frustrating for me is that the hospital didn't really tell us that his organs were failing and that he only had two more days on this earth. Instead they told us that he needed 24 hour around the clock dialysis and they weren't able to do it there. They had him transported to their main hospital where he was checked into the ICU. They immediately determined that he was septic and started in on large doses of antibiotics, drained more fluid off his abdomen and installed a port for dialysis to try to get his kidneys going. On his final day he was having trouble breathing and asked to be put on a ventilator. That was in the morning. He had another surgery that afternoon to remove more fluid and re-install the dialysis tube because it was kinked. That surgery was at 2:30. We left the hospital at 5 and received a call around 6:15 that he was in cardiac arrest and CPR was being performed. The doctors and nurses tried for 45 minutes to resuscitate him, but when we arrived back the hospital he was already gone. Our family is beyond devastated. Never in our wildest dreams would we image that he would be taken from us by this horribly decease.
