The chance of getting pregnant this way is minimal. Any time, especially if you are ovulating, sperm comes in contact with a woman's outer genitalia, there is a chance for conception. It only takes one sperm to swim into your vagina. If a released egg is waiting, the sperm fertilizes the egg and pregnancy results.
If your period is late beyond one week, I suggest you take a home pregnancy test.
