In my past relationships, I tended to share finances 50/50 right down the middle since we both had money. Whatever the other person did with their leftover money was their business and it didn't cause too much of an argument as long as the bills were paid.

I think this approach worked in my situation because if something big (like replacing a roof) was something that needed to be done, we shared the expense. I guess this approach only works with two people that are money makers in a relationship though.

When you are talking about an 'at home Mom' and there is only one income, I see how this may become an issue and cause arguments.

I know in my situation, splitting things right down the middle did work out very well since we didn't share our personal money, only bills.
