I've looked this condition up for you and found the following information:

The "strawberry birthmark" is called hemangioma, or strawberry nevus.

They can be superficial or "cavernous," and go through different phases from rapid growth, to rest, to "involutional" (decrease in size to disappearing).

They are are the most common benign tumor in infants and between 4-10% of Caucasian infants have at least one.
