Hi, so a doctor told me that I have Bacterial Vaginosis! Now before I didn’t know that I had the infection because I wasn’t getting any discharge or symptoms... Only when I went to get check up I was told by the doctor, I got treatment at the hospital (antibiotics injection) and the doctor prescribe Zithromax 500 (two tablets to take at once) and Flagyl 400 (twice a day for 7 days)... As soon as I took the Zithromax I got very ill, nausea, fever, belly pains and I started seeing a Dark brown almost black discharge. The next day I started the Flagyl 500 the symptoms stop but the discharge remains I’m still getting a dark brown discharge (not my period) and I’m getting the slight belly pain as well... I’m on my second day of taking the Flagyl and I just don’t quite understand what’s going on because I didn’t get the pain nor the discharge before I took the Zithromax... Is this side effects? Or does this mean that it’s working? Or is it serious?

Hello Nikibaby
Thank you for writing.
Zithromax is used for many conditions, mainly ears/nose/throat conditions as well as upper respiratory problems like pneumonia. Abdominal pain is a listed side effect but this kind of discharge is not. However, it doesn't mean to say that you are not experiencing this as a side effect. Pain and nausea are listed side effects.
Vaginal discharge is a known side effect of Flagyl but if you were getting this before you took it, there may be no connection. Flagyl has many uncomfortable side effects including the ones you are experiencing.
Please call your doctor to report your symptoms. Do it today if possible.
