When it comes to your mental health, there are many things that one can do to help benefit their brain, including eating. Here are some foods that you can add to your grocery list to better your brain health.

Water: It's pretty obvious to everyone how important water is to your overall health. When it comes to the health of your brain, it’s always good to remind ourselves that our brain needs water in order to function and is vital to cell efficiency. It’s best to continually drink water throughout the day to help replenish what has been lost through daily activity.

Dark leafy green vegetables: The same vegetables that we remember hating growing up are the ones that can help us boost our memory as we get older. Leafy green vegetables have antioxidant properties and are a great source for B vitamins, which are essential for brain health. Some good leafy vegetables that you can easily add to your diet include things like kale, spinach, and collards.

Berries: Most people are fans of berries due to their delicious taste, but what they don’t know is that there are tons of benefits in them when it comes to your brain. Berries of all kinds have anthocyanins that are the reason for their vibrant color and memory improvements including reasoning skills and verbal comprehension. Frozen berries are a still a great way to receive nutrients for your brain and are even known to actually have more anthocyanins when in a frozen state.

Seeds and nuts: An ounce of seeds or nuts a day can greatly benefit your brain health. These foods are packed with vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, complex B vitamins and so much more. Butters are also really great for your brain health as well. Anything from almonds and cashews sunflower seeds and almond butter can help keep your brain healthy.

Red wine: There’s nothing like a good glass of wine, especially if you know that that glass can help with memory loss. Like any other food or drink, it’s important to enjoy it in moderation. According to researchers at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, red wine has antioxidants that are found in red grapes.

Dark Chocolate: Chocolate can do so much more for your body than just make you happy. Dark chocolate in particular is a natural source for caffeine, which can help with concentration. One half of an ounce to one ounce a day should be able to give you all of the nutrients that you need.
