Iconic singer Whitney Houston died Saturday at the age of 48, The Associated Press reports.

Kristen Foster, Houston’s publicist confirmed the entertainer had died, but the cause of death was unknown.

Police spokesman, Lt. Mark Rosen told CNN there were no signs of “criminal intent.”

Houston was one of the world’s best-selling artists in the 1980s and 1990s. She also starred in movies such as “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale.”

In addition to her talent, Houston was also known for her tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown and for her admission to using cocaine, marijuana and pills.

CNN reports that Houston died at a hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on the eve of the 54th annual Grammy Awards despite resuscitation efforts.
