I just had "Her Option" cryo ablation of my endometrial lining four days ago for heavy bleeding, cramps, anemia with my periods. I'd like to know if there are any other ladies out there who have had this procedure and their experience. Didi it work for you? Did it help with PMS too?

Hi...I had the procedure done last week. I've had some nausea every day, usually in the afternoons but no vomiting. Has anyone experienced that? I know everyone is different, thought I'd ask. Definitely have that watery discharge too! The doctor told me she hopes it will at least make my periods lighter and shorter since I have a condition called Adenomyosis. Anyone know the success rate for someone with Adenomyosis? My cycle would last 7 - 10 days with alot of pain and extermely heavy bleeding/clotting during the first 3 days.

I had the Her Option done on June 8th. The procedure itself wasn't bad. I did get nauseous and throw up after it was over (when I got in the car and left the GYN)!..due to the motrin or whatever they gave me or the anti-anxiety pill before hand they gave me. I rarely take any pills so maybe that is why?
Anyway, it was over in 30 minutes.
I am on my 3rd month of "waiting" to see if I do NOT get a period. Ugh. I am not happy. 4000.00 procedure and it didn't seem to work. I have heavy periods still and bleed more! than 4-5 days!! more than before! I keep waiting for it to get shorter but it doesn't happen. Not trying to be a downer but waited to post until at least 3 months down road to see what success rate I am having. Not too well though. I must have had that leakage/watery discharge for almost 3 weeks straight. Use liners/thin pads... I had to use them 3 weeks straight. It smelled like rotten meat too!! TMI sorry but what is that? and why does it leak -?from the cryo freezing --the thawing??
So now I will wait 3 more months. Doc told me give it 4-5 months..some say 6 months...but we will see. I have no other issues...but I am 44 and sick of heavy periods. I had twins 4 1/2 years ago and the periods are awful! I will say my menstrual migraines are not as bad and bloating isn't too too bad....but periods are STILL HERE and do not seem to be leaving any time soon sadly. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.... I will all of you better luck. Will report in another few motnhs.

Thanks for sharing your story, even if it is bad news. I hope your condition improves in the next few months, and am very interested to hear if it does. At least a few of your other symptoms have improved, so hopefully that is reassuring (especially the migraines improving...those can be debilitating!)

I had "Her Ablation" five months ago. It did not work for me. It's truly hard to believe that I fit in the 2% unsuccessful rate. My DR said the only other option is a hysterectomy and I find that too drastic considering despite my menses everything else is normal. I was highly depressed that my procedure didn't work. The only thing that has changed is I do not experience menstrual cramps, but was it worth destroying a part of my body? I'm only 40 yrs young and will endure my heavy let me rephrase that extraordinary amounts of blood I loose each month. To anser the previous post No the procedure will not take away PMS. My doctor's explanation to why the procedure didn't work was that sometimes the lining of the uterus is embedded within the uterus muscles in which they cannot touch. We attempted the procedure at the right time of the month he assured me. :-( I wish those who have this procedure done all the best and I hope it works for you.

I had my procedure done Jan 2008.It was so painful I cried they only gave me one valium and a pain shot, that didn't work. The first day after I was in bed all day. The first period after was HELL and the next 7 weren't much better. By 6 mos out my cramps weren't as bad and I didn't bleed as much after the first day. But I still wasn't happy with it. I went back for my checkup at that time and he basically said Oh well for some it is better and others its not. And I could go back to my GP to get my annuals. So I was just a statistic for him and since it really didn't do what it was suppose to do then he was done with me.
August 20, 2009 - 1:15pmAnyways it has been a year and a half, and now since may I have been having a period every two weeks. And heavy at times. And Oh yeah the nasty cramping. As much pain as that procedure was I am not sure if I could do it again. I am going to a new Gyno at the end of this month so hopefully she will help me. Of course my deductible is outrageous now so who knows.

Thank you for sharing your story; I am sorry it was so awful for you. Most health care providers DO care about their patients, and DO care about pain management. If you are interested in helping other women (to prevent them from going to this doctor for this procedure), you can call your state's Medical Board to register a complaint. (We can look up this information for you, if you would like: just tell us what state you live in).
I am happy to hear that you are going to a new Gynecologist, and I hope you receive some much needed relief and information..and support.

I just had the procedure four days ago. My dr said that most women tolerate the procedure quite well. It was most uncomfortable, and when my cervix was dialated it felt like labor. If I had had a choice, I would have chosen some type of anesthetic. The watery discharge has been a flood - soaking through super pads in 45 minutes. What exactly is this watery discharge and why is there so much of it?

I just had the cryoablation done on the 7th of August. It was done as outpatient care because I had several other procedures done at the same time. My period was due when I went in so I am hoping that doesn't end up causing me complications. My doctor did a D&C first and checked the uterus for fibroids and cysts, but said there weren't any of either. I did have a few spots of endometrial tissue on the right ovary so it was removed as well (was discussed and I knew going in this was a very good possibility). Does anyone know how removing one ovary will effect my period? So far, I had about 5 days of the gushing like water (found it gross, feel dirty all the time). It did have a slight odor that kind of goes back and forth. I am now on day 10 and am still getting the yellowish discharge and light mostly pinkish bleeding back and forth. Was not released from recovery until around 3:30 in the afternoon because I could not urinate until then (they had drained my bladder and it was empty). I was very sick when I got home and very nautious. The doctor ended up calling me in a nausia medicine that did help a lot. My mouth was so dry I could not eat anything because I was so dry I could not get it down, had to drink water and force it and even that was miserable. Hoping things start to really improve soon. Have been told I have to wait six weeks before having sex (should be climbing the walls by then) and not tampons until then either. I hate pads, so I am not having fun with this. Have no idea with all the different procedures what to expect for periods or how long this will last. Thanks everyone for sharing, having people share experiences really does help a lot.

I had cryoablation done in February due to extremely painful cycles that made it impossible to live a normal life during the days prior. The periods were quite heavy too, but the pain was what made up my mind to get it done. I was at the point where I couldn't function during that time of the month and had to schedule activities around it.
There was some cramping after the procedure, which was relieved by an injection before I left the doctor's office. If I remember correctly, I was prescribed some vicoden which I never filled, bc after a good nap and some ibuprofens, the pain had subsided. The next day I was back to work. I noticed over the months that my cycles were lighter and shorter. Most of all, I was pain free!
