I just had "Her Option" cryo ablation of my endometrial lining four days ago for heavy bleeding, cramps, anemia with my periods. I'd like to know if there are any other ladies out there who have had this procedure and their experience. Didi it work for you? Did it help with PMS too?

I understand how you feel. I do not believe the doctors are telling their patients EVERYTHING. They are only telling us the positive aspects of it. The doctors fail to mention the cramps being so bad you vomit, the nights curled up on the couch in the fetal position, the feeling like you are bleeding uncontrolably. The bleeding and cramping can be extremely debilitating....I do not want to leave the house anymore and it's only been 2 weeks + 1 day for me. It is all I can do to get through a day of work. And I might put in for FMLA time except for the fact that I'm sure my doctor would not sign the papers. And I have been told to give it a full 6 months before considering it a failure.....if I am feeling the need to be confined to my house then it has already failed me. And I am 36 years old who has had 4 children....the last of which was 10 lbs delivered vaginally so I DO understand true pain and this goes far beyond that.
October 6, 2009 - 11:53amI'm sure if the doctors performing this (mine in particular whom I have been seeing for years!!) had to sit around in a diaper full of their own excrements, writhing in pain, this procedure would have been removed from the market faster than it was introduced. I think doctors have found a way to make a quick $5080 bucks....that's what they charged my insurance company.

I had cryoablation yesterday, and hope that my experience will help anyone out there who is hesitating about the procedure. I was nervous anyway, but even moreso when it turned out, as luck would have it, that surgery day was also my heavy bleeding day. (My doctor explained that the only issue with performing the procedure durng menses is that it sometimes exacerbates the period symptoms.) I went ahead with the procedure, and it was smooth sailing. (30 minutes prior to the procedure I was given 10 mg. of Valium, a 60 mg. injection of Torodol (non-steroid anti-inflammatory), and 25 mg. of Phenergen for nausea.) The only real discomfort was when she had to "vacuum" me out (necessary only if you go in with your period.) I had very mild cramping after and took Darvaset only because I was scared the pain would worsen, but I was fine. Went home and slept from 1:30 to 8:30, then back to sleep for the nite at 10:30 and went to work today. I've had no pain at all; just the annoying leaking that everyone has talked about. Now I just hope I'm one of the lucky ones for whom the procedure works!

An update to my post last week - heavy bleeding only lasted the one day and this weekend has been very light. If this is how my cycles will be from here on out - I'll take it over what I used to have!

Hi there. I had the Her Option procedure done on Aug 28. I have two children, both delivered vaginally. After my second, my periods got progressively worse - no cramping to speak of but unpredictable, heavy and long. Every 2-3 weeks I would start to spot for 2-3 days and then have a full on 5-7 day period, at least 2-3 of those days heavy. I chose the cryoablation because I could not go on birth control due to the side effects and didn't want the risks of hysterectomy. I feel my doctor informed me of everything I needed, both pre and post procedure.
The procedure itself was not painful but I would describe it as uncomfortable. It took about 45 minutes total freezing time - my doctor freezes in "zones" and has found that to be more successful. About 20 mins after the procedure, I experienced pain I would describe as full on labor pains. I wasn't exactly expecting that but it was over in another 30 minutes. I was able to return to work on Monday with no issues other than mild bloating. For the first week, I had the watery pink discharge and then nothing for another week. I was suspicious because I was told this would go on for 2 weeks. The 3rd week, the watery pink discharged returned. This week was relatively nothing to speak of until tonight. With no warning, a flood appeared. Every time I stand up, I feel as though the flood gates are opening. I've passed a few large clots (similar to those passed after child birth) and I'm soaking a super-overnight pad every hour or so. No cramping, thankfully. Since my cycle is very unpredictable, I only have to assume this is my first period post procedure.
I'm hopeful that having had this procedure will help over the long run. I'll check in from time to time and update my progress.
Thanks - reading these posts have been extremely helpful!

I had the procedure My option cyroablation done 4 years ago and it helped me tremendously. I have a fibroid the size of a lemon that has caused a lot of problems, heavy periods, cramping, clotting for the last 10 years. I had no side effects. Outpatient procedure. Back to work in three days with no problems. Cycle was light the first year or so, but gradually became normal. I do have to take oral contraception to have normal cycle. Still have cramping but nothing like it was. Would recommend before doing anything drastic like a hysterectomy. But this procedure is not recommended if you plan on having kids. Good Luck!!

I just had the procedure done yesterday September 4th 09. The procedure itself was uncomfortable but not painful. I haven't needed any pain medication at all, not even ibuoprophen. I had faint pink discharge yesterday and this morning, but nothing since and i have had a full day today. My concern is that i have had very unusual amounts of (beggin your pardons) gas. The bloating feeling also. No watery discharge at all. I'm wondering if this is normal. I thought that was a given, to expect some watery discharge. Any insights on this from anyone would be appreciated.

I had Her Option done last Thursday (Aug. 27). I had a valium and a shot for pain before the procedure. The worst part was my bladder being full and the doctor pressing on my bladder during the ultrasound. The doctors also had a difficult time inserting the probe b/c they said I had a long cervix (?). They were also monitoring my c-section scar through the ultrasound.
I have only had to take 2 pain meds (loritab) the first 24 hours w/ light, bright red watery discharge, then 2 days ago, BAM! a gush of blood like a period (I had no idea I would have a period, isn't that why I did this procedure??). My doctor did not really explain the after effects. I think I was due for my period anyhow (I am pretty irregular and had my last period sometime in July) and now I am bleeding heavy, but the clotting is not near as bad, but still a bit crampy and can't use tampons....grrrr. I hate these pads and wondering after I stop bleeding will the watery discharge come?
August 31, 2009 - 4:16pmI have also noticed a "different" smell than usual, not bad or worse, just different, if that makes sense. I am not certain I would do this again.

Hi gal,
If you have had nausea every day since call your doc! It is not normal. In the first day or two but on the sheet I received u have to call if you experience any bad side effects like the nausea you are describing!
Hi Alison! thanks for replying. I hope it gets better...3 down 3 more months to really see what will come of this. If not, maybe hysterectomy down road...I do not intend to keep having these horrid heavy periods til I am 80 lol.
