I just had "Her Option" cryo ablation of my endometrial lining four days ago for heavy bleeding, cramps, anemia with my periods. I'd like to know if there are any other ladies out there who have had this procedure and their experience. Didi it work for you? Did it help with PMS too?

well I read all the posts and am grateful for reading all of your experiences but am also now scared to death. I am 48 and have had very regular, normal periods all my life, 3-5 days of bleeding with little or no cramping. I have a new boyfriend since march '09. Fell in love with him and sex for the first time in my life, but as luck woud have it, I think I might be going through the change. I missed a period in August (even, God forbid, thought i might have been pregnant but wasn't). Then assumed I was just going through the change. well, I got my period Sept 4th and still have it going on 7 weeks now. after the 3rd week, went to the GYN and was put on Provera which lightened the period but never took it away. He did all the other testing for fibroids, polyups, cancer, all negative. Now he is suggesting the cryoablation and i am scheduled for tues 10/20. The only reason I agreed was I thought it would stop the bleeding and I could continue having relations with my boyfriend, he's been very patient. But now to learn I will have a watery discharge for 2-3-4 weeks, then an even heavier period with tissue pieces after that, possible gushing, accidents, possible infection, nausea, vomiting, cramping, bad smells, and that after all that the procedure might not even work? I don't think I will get this done! But I haven't read about anyone who has the problem that I'm having. My doctor says that yes, when going through the change, because I missed a period in August, that might explain the length of what I going through right now. But if it's going to be months before I can go pad free and have sex with this procedure, I think I would rather wait this out and avoid all the complications mentioned above. Any thoughts? Like many of you, I wonder about the percentages quoted to us by the docs and where are all the successful cases. any responses would be appreciated, thank you for reading.

I just finished reading all of the posts. Wow! I'm not sure I would have had the procedure if I had read all of these before hand! I just had the procedure on October 14, 2009, 3 days ago. I had a little bit of spotting on the first day and since then not much of anything. I wear a pantyliner all the time anyway (leaking bladder) so that's not much of a problem. But after reading all of the other posts I guess I need to be prepared for a big gush of clear liquid? The doctor had mentioned the watery discharge, I just haven't seen it yet. My problem so far is that I am feeling really tired, out of sorts, I have a low grade fever (although I took the antibiotics they gave me) and I feel like I'm PMSing! It's almost like I'm going through menopause with irritableness and hot flashes. Has anybody else felt this? Or maybe I have an infection?--Paula

Ok well my period seems to have almost disappared. The heavy bleeding only lasted 1 day and now its so light I can just wear a pantyliner. If this is how it will be from here on out I am very happy. I used to bleed so heavy for 7-10 days. Hopefully this is the end result or it will go away completely!

Hi there, I had Her Option done in August. I got a small period In Sept. very very light for a few days which was great! I was so excited. I know just got a full blown period very heavy with lots of craming. I am very upset because the procedure was not comfortable and I would hope It at least worked a little. I am going to see if it subsides in a a day or so. It used to last well over 7 days and its only day 1. I will keep you posted.

I too am sorry to hear about the failed procedures. I posted on October 1st a day after my procedure, so it's a bit early for a follow-up post in that I have no idea if the procedure will stop my periods. I find myself wondering, though, why we all have such different experiences both during the procedure and the first week or so after. Based just upon the ease of the experience and the aftermath, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. (Of course, my out of pocket expenses are a different story!) I had minimal pain during my procedure and have had absolutely no pain since. On day six my watery leakage picked up quite a bit. It's not a comfortable feeling, but nor does it interfere with my every day activities. (I just change pads a lot and feel like I need to buy stock in Always Overnite pads!) I hope those of you who are having a tough time are doing better now, and for anyone considering the procedure, maybe you can ask your doctors why people respond so differently. (I think as far as the procedure itself, the drugs probably are key. I had valium and torodol 30 minutes prior. I also had the surgery on my heaviest period day, unplanned of course. I don't think it's recommended to do it that way, but I wonder if that had something to do with why I'm doing OK now?) Anyway, good luck!

I am very sorry to hear about all the failed procedures. I originally posted on July 22, 2009. I have to say, for me, this has been a success. Here's my story: I am 45 years old. I had the procedure done because for more than a year, I was constantly spotting between periods. I mean, almost every day. My periods have always been heavy, but I guess I learned to live with them. I've been on the pill since I finished nursing my daughter, almost 13 years ago. After the procedure, I leaked the heavy watery discharge for about a week, then it slowed down so that panti-liners were enough. About a week before my period was due (which was 2 weeks after the procedure), I started spotting a light pinkish discharge, with tiny flecks of tissue. When my period was actually supposed to happen (now mind you, I'm still on the pill, so I know EXACTLY when I will get my period), I had absolutely NOTHING. I had no spotting at all the next month, leading up to my 2nd period. The 2nd period was heavy. I feel like THAT was what I was supposed to have had the first month. The doctor had told me my first period would be heavier than normal to get rid of all the frozen tissue. But, like I said, I had no period the first month, and the 2nd was very heavy. Last week was what should have been my third period since the procedure, and it was practically nothing. One panti-liner a day for 3 days, and that's it! NO spotting at all in between. Maybe I was lucky, but I consider this to be a complete success. Now I just have to decide if I want to go off the pill.

I had Her Option Cryoablation done on 9/4/09 in the Doctor's office under semi-sedation with Valium and Phenergan. It was pretty painful, but because of the meds I didn't really care. I had a bit of cramping and bloody/watery discharge for 2 weeks post, then on 9/30 started my first period (which was very bad and crampy). I went back to the Doctor and he said that the uterus can be tender for some time after the cryosurgery and we should know more about my ultimate response to it after 3 months. I am 46 and am finished having children, so if my uterus continues to act up be enlarged I will have a hysterectomy.

I recently had the Her Option procedure done (9/22/09) and personally I would not recommend this for anyone!! The doctor made this sound like such a breeze, well I can personally attest to the fact that it is the furthest thing from a "breeze"! The doctor said it was perfect for me since I was having very long periods and had developed anemia. He said it was so simple that I could even return to work the next day.....so not true!! The procedure went well only because I was so drugged up but the after effects are so not worth it!! Only have this done if you do not work or particularly like the feel of a nasty, bloody pad all over you, all day long. It's far worse than my periods ever were. Not only did I not return to work the very next day, but so far I have managed to miss 4 entire days of work and had to take my lunch breaks on the other days to go home and change because I have ruined my clothes yet again. Plus, this very easy, simple procedure has cost me $80.00 in ruined desk chairs at work. I am now sleeping on my leather couch so as not to ruin my mattress and lucky me this may go on for 6 months or longer. I think this procedure needs to be renamed "use only as a last option".

I'm sorry you're having such a bad time of it. I'm on day 2 post procedure, was back at work the next day, and have now had two good days at work. I have found that wearing two Overnight Always pads does the trick-- one in back and one in front for "full coverage." I certainly don't like the messy feeling, but haven't had bleed through problems, change every few hours, and am hoping this is a means to an end. (My hope is to eliminate both my period and the iron infusions that I have to get monthly because I'm anemic!) Hope things improve for you soon.

It is awful. 4 months later and it is still HORRIBLE. 4000.00 down the drain. It isnt worth it..and it should be renamed the LAST OPTION because it really doesn't work. 4 months... I guess I will go for a hysterectomy too if this is so heavy all the time. I think its seriously WORSE now!! than it was in the first place. Ugh. I feel your pain.
