I just had "Her Option" cryo ablation of my endometrial lining four days ago for heavy bleeding, cramps, anemia with my periods. I'd like to know if there are any other ladies out there who have had this procedure and their experience. Didi it work for you? Did it help with PMS too?

That sounds like a lot of bleeding. Have you let your doctor know that this is happening? I would just check in with them and see if they have any suggestions. Hang in there.
My period will start next week and I am a little anxious about it. I wonder how heavy it will be. About three days after the procedure I had some lining come out. it was about as big as a penny, but I haven't had anything else like that. My doc said it would be mostly watery and that I wouldn't see much lining. It is almost reassuring to see it because then it seems like the procedure has worked. Sorry if this post has made anyone queasy with the above details, I really need this forum to talk about this experience!

Interesting comments - Thanks to all of you for discussing. It has been very helpful to me. I had the Her Option procedure done 3 weeks ago, and also experienced loss of pieces of tissue (gross...) as well as the persistant watery discharge, that did seem to decline somewhat over time. No one told me at the time of the procedure that the first period after would be horrific; I learned about that little "side effect" by accident a few days ago from another doctor. I'm glad I was made aware by somebody! Yesterday, I began cramping and wondered if the time was drawing close. During the middle of the night, I awoke (still wearing pads due to the watery discharge), and my bed looked like that scene from the "Godfather." I have been in pain all day and bleeding about as heavy as I did right after I gave birth. I couldn't make it in to work, and needless to say, I have been doing loads of laundry. I too apologize for being graphic, but I was truly shocked at the intensity of this period. I wish the doc who performed the procedure had warned me, so that's the reason I am posting - be ready for a breaking dam when that first period after the procedure comes. The way this other doc, who wasn't involved in my procedure, described it, was that all of that ablated built-up material comes loose at the onset of the first period after Her Option, and the body is essentially shedding all of that debris. So if you start to feel warning cramps, or whatever your own particular "warning signs" are, make sure that your purse/briefcase/backpack are loaded with protection, WEAR protection, even if nothing has happened yet, and place a couple of folded towels on your bed to save yourself the trouble I have been going through today! I do have a faint recollection from last night, having been half asleep and half awake, of a sensation of a massive amount of liquid leaving my body. For me, when it happened, it seemed to happen very suddenly and with great volume. So I recommend being proactive and continuing protection until that first period is out of the way to avoid public embarrassment/ruined clothes and bedding. If you feel a sudden release of fluid, get thee to a restroom with your bag loaded with protection! And have lots of Advil and a heating pad at the ready. Truly - this is shocking, and I just wonder how long this heavy bleeding will last! Good luck to everyone - I hope the procedure is successful for all of us!

Hi Shelley,
I know its been a while since your procedure so I don't know if you are still reading posts but.....how have things been since your first period? I had the procedure done 2 weeks ago and started my period only 3 days after the procedure. The flow was not as intense but it is still going 11 days later. My doc said I could continue to spot (although I'm using 1-2 pads a day...does that constitute just "spotting"?) for the next month and get my next period in the meantime. Like you, I was not aware of this post-procedure bleeding and would have appreciated a heads-up! Thanks for any information you are willing to share. Kristen

Hello All,

I had HEROPTION done on May 19, 2009. I had been bleeding from February to May (when i had my procedure) The first 3 weeks I had yellow discharge with blood. It lasted only 3 wks..... it slowly faded. I did notice that if I stood for long periods of time I would bleed heavier. I did have occasional spotting every now and then after the 3wks following procedure. I had my first period on June 18. It was very heavy until day 3. It is fading now.

The procedure itself went very well. I have a very low tolerance for pain. I was uncomfortable with the cramping during the procedure. Afterwards, I took ADVIL for about 2 days, fine after that.

I am looking forward to seeing how this procedure works. I am hoping not to bleed between periods and have normal cycles.

Hi there Ellen, Thanks for writing. My understanding is that between 20 to 30 percent of the women who have the procedure (which was approved by the FDA in 2001 for those who aren't familiar) done will stop having periods all together. The other 60 to 70 percent will have a significant reduction in the amount of bleeding usually down to light bleeding or spotting.

Did the doctor who performed the procedure review expectations with you?

Yes, but her numbers and the brochures numbers report it improves (I guess that is a relative term) 93% of womens' symptoms. I would be happy with any improvement, but of course would like to be one of the lucky ones whos menses greatly improves. We discussed it as a viable option to try before even considering a hysterectomy. I felt it was worth a try.
However, I am surprised to say I only know one person who has had cryo ablation. Her procedure was done with heat instead of freezing so the procedures are a bit different. I just want to find others who have had the same procedure done and they have been hard to find!'

i had the eblation (burning of the uterine lining) done april of 2009,it didn't work but the dr. says why he thinks it did'nt work was because i have 2 fibriods & 1 cyst on my cervix & i also had a fibriod in my uterine wall embedded,i just had the her option(cryoblation, freezing) done about 2 weeks ago & he(dr) assures me that this will take care of my menses issues if not then the only other option is a hystroctomy.

Hello, I just had Her Option about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have had watery/bloody discharge, sometimes very heavy. Started my period about 4 days ago and have been bleeding SO heavy and cramps are terrible. My doc told me to start Nuva Ring today and use it for 3 months and that should help thin the endometrium lining. Hope this works.....
