Eating healthy helps me lose weight

By August 6, 2011 - 2:41pm

I know for a fact if I eat a well balanced meal it helps me lose weight. When I lost my mother in 2010 in June I started going for walks at least 30min, morning and evening, to clear my head of all the stress I was dealing with for a long period of time. Some how I found myself eating healthier just plain ordinary meals my mother use to cook simple but healthy potatoes, meat ,chicken, vegetables, or pasta with salad. It worked for me I ended up losing about 40 pds without even noticing until my clothes started falling off me.I have issues of staying on track with everything but I keep at it cooking always seems to be the biggest issue.I really have a tough time finding time to cook a good healthy meal that fills me up so I don't go back to feeling hungry again.I take care of my dad now as he has become ill and most of my time is spent taking care of him and when I come home I feel tired and stressed out from my day. How can I keep on taking care of myself and eat healthy?

I hope everything is going well now. There's this website that can give you professional help with health and even diet questions. I think is going to make life a lot easier for a lot of people, so I thought I should share it with you. I have used healthtap.com before to get fast answers from actual US doctors, but I just tried their new product, and it is mind blowing! I just connected with a real doctor in New York City, and she gave me some info that will actually help me with my condition.

Hi Susan, Thanks for your concern but my dad is taking a turn for the worst and I have been very busy at the Hospital everyday for aleast a month. It has been an ongoing situation with him for a while and even thou he is 91 he still is cognitive very bright and light hearted about his life.My dad fractured his lower back and has a few more complications that come with getting older but I am doing my best for him and he knows I am there for him so that makes me feel good. For the last few days now I am eating healthier, salads, fruit. and plenty of fluids I am still aware of needing to eat healthy but under all that stress I was not eating good,so it looks like I am back on track. It is amazing what stress can do to your eating habits. I guess they call that emotional eating, so worried, tired and anxious and I feel like I'm in a fog.

Thank you everyone for your concern about my dad, and yes it is getting very stressful for me and I have fallen off the so called healthy feeling of eating well.I am taking the day off today to reenergize my spirits and overall health.I will start over again as it is never to late.I have to say I had posted this question about eating healthy when I was looking for a placement for my dad in a Nursing Home and now it is April 19,2012 and I have been spending all my days lately at the Hospital with my dad as he has suffered at least 3 mini strokes and it doesn't look good.I thank you Daisy and Danielle for looking out for me it is much appreciated.

willalee,

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I totally understand feeling too busy to cook and take care of yourself. It's so easy to go out to eat or reach for something packaged after a busy & stressful day. Just remember how much BETTER you feel when you eat fresh, whole, nutritious foods!

Try taking just one or two days to cook for the whole week. Cut and prepare veggies that will be easy to make when you get home. Consider making big meals that can be refrigerated or frozen, so you can just turn on the stove or oven to re-heat your home-cooked meal. You'll save money and time by preparing food ahead of time.

Make sure to stay hydrated, eat enough fiber, and get enough sleep! And remember to bring those good, healthy snacks with you throughout the day to help keep you energized!

Hope all is well!

Best,

Danielle.
