Increased bleeding may be caused by a shorter menstrual cycle, hormonal imbalance, or by a health problem that causes vaginal bleeding. Having a period once every two weeks, (twice monthly) is not normal and you should see your doctor if it's ongoing, because you may become anemic from frequent periods (bleeding). They are sometimes a sign of infection or other medical problem that would need treatment.
