Yesterday I went to the doctor and found out that I have a urinary tract infection. I've been given antibiotics that are helping a lot. I'm also making sure I stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and cranberry juice, and eating yogurt. What foods should I avoid with a urinary tract infection?

Thank you so much for these tips, Kristin! They are extremely helpful. I'll be sure to avoid these for the next few days until I am fully healed.
Hoping it's better soon too :) Thanks again for your help!

Hi Lauren,
Thank you for coming back to the EmpowHER community and for sharing your question! I am glad that you are treating the UTI symptoms and feeling better already! To answer your question, you will want to stay clear of certain foods that will irritate your bladder.
1. Caffeine can irritate your bladder, so you will want to stay away from coffee and other caffeinated beverages.
2. Alcohol.
3. Citrus-flavored beverages.
4. Fruits that have a lot of acid such as lemons, oranges, grapefruits, and tomatoes.
5. Spicy foods can worsen the symptoms of a UTI, so stay away from jalapeños, peppers and curry spices.
6. Artificial Sweeteners. There's no real proof that these sugar alternatives can make a UTI worse, but if you can try to avoid them until you are UTI-free.
Lauren, was this helpful? Good luck and I hope you are feeling 100% real soon!
Best,
Kristin
