I had an IUD inserted a few years ago after having my second child. Shortly after, I began having irregular heartbeat and was eventually diagnosed with SVT. After two heart surgeries and nearly two years of medications, I still had the palpatations. However, after having my IUD removed, I noticed the palpatations stopped. I know this may sound crazy, but can IUDs cause heart problems? Have other women had this experience?

So I went to the ER last week with a 3 week bout of palpitations and huge PVC's. I felt like a fish was flopping in my chest and then my head would feel light and tingly. I get palpitations with each cycle and it usually only last a day or so, but this was 3+ weeks straight and was severe like 40-50 times an hour. The ER said that they did their job and ruled out heart attack and stroke and to follow up with my cardiologist....well, instead, I made an appointment with my OBGYN to have this mirena taken out. I get it out on Friday.
January 27, 2014 - 12:25amNow, one question I have is about the diabetes drug Metformin. I take that for PCOS and I had stopped taking it for like 3 months and recently started back again. I was wondering if that had anything to do with it. Metformin is a drug that is used for fertility treatments as well since many women with PCOS are insulin resistant the drug makes the insulin better and hormones regulated. I wonder if this has anything to do with it???? My sleep has been utter CRAP!!! And I am a sleep technologist. I am very militant on my sleep and it sucks when I cannot get my sleep.

Girl's this is completely amazing and reassuring as for the past 2 week's I have honestly thought my heart was giving up on me! I had the marina coil fitted on September the 20th, on September the 23rd I was admitted to hospital via the accident and emergency department due to unexplained HEART ARRHYTHMIA'S they lasted near enough 2 day's but after numerous test's all was found fine with my heart and it was put down to "a stressful lifestyle" I have since had 2 more episode's which are extremely worrying, I then thought "I had the marina coil fitted 2 day's before it all started" and thankfully found this forum! Safe to say I am having it removed ASAP. Thanks girl's :)

Get it removed before permanent damage occurs. I had mine out on Valentine's Day 2013 after a year of it in. I am 56 and have almost no heart palpitations. I can't wait for my annual checkout to see if I still have the heart murmer and arythmia diagnosed post Mirena implantion.

I don't know what happened to my comment, but I wanted to write an update that I have had my copper IUD out for over a year now and have not have a heart palpitation since. I felt like I was having heart attacks, 3 last March 2012.
Now I'm on the pill and of course it makes me itch like crazy all over. haha You just can't win! I guess itching is better than feeling like my heart would explode.

I had an occasional palpitation before IUD. After it was racing so much of the time. I thought my heart was coming out of my chest. I was also diagnosed with an arythmia and a heart murmer - at 55??? So I had the IUS removed on Valentines Day and now I have less than the occasional palpitation.

I will do that. And when I told my gynocologist about the symptoms she said it was stress due to my daughter's ongoing Afghanistan assignment and gave me a perscription for Xanax!! BS I say.

I'm so glad I found this I have had this same problem a week after getting mine put in last march.. It started out as palpatations this really hard beating all over my body.. then my cheast started to hurt, a really high heart rate, over 150 just standing up and walking 2 feet,I'm only 24.. ive had fainting spells nesua voimiting, and several trips to the hospital...Stress test ultrasounds I've had EKG's, worn the halter monitor I was diagnosisd with SVT a year later and I am currently on a beta blocker that helps with my racing heart rate but not so much the palpitations I called the FDA to report this as no one has yet reported this to them they asked that all of you call or go online and file a report of adverse event so they can make sure this is taken care of www.fda.gov/medwatch
