Can i get pregnant without deep penetration?

Hi, I'm 23 years old lady and I'm still a virgin. I have a bf and we've been together for more than 4 years. We never had 'real' penetration or sexual intercourse (saving it for the marriage). But today we made out and he only put his tip into me (only like half an inch to an inch) but did not cum in me. I am just a little concerned and went online to search for answers, and some people even mentioned that with what i've done, i'm actually not a virgin anymore! but no pain no blood flow happened.

Anyway, my question is, will i get pregnant this way? isit really true that if sperm was only near the vagina, i will get pregnant?

only supportive and real answers please.. i know i shud've used contraception, but it was our first time, and we didn't really planned for it to happen.

thanks..

Hi Anonymous

You cannot get pregnant if you had no contact with his ejaculate. In 99% of cases, you need penetration to get pregnant. The sperm has to be in your vagina to swim up and fertilize an egg.

I'm guessing your period is late because you are so stressed out. Even if he had ejaculate on his hand and touched you, it would be extremely unlikely for you to get pregnant. Sperm is not like bacteria...you don't leave a trace of it on whatever you touch.

Relax. I'm certain you are not pregnant from this.

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER. The sexual activity you guys did does put her at some risk for becoming pregnant. Did you not use any birth control? If she misses her next period, she can take a pregnancy test (some say to wait a week after a missed period, then the results will be more accurate). Here is an article to read, it may help answer some questions you and your girlfriend may have:
The Misconceptions of Sex
If she hasn't yet, it may not be a bad idea for her to get in touch with a doctor to get checked out and get on birth control or learn more about it if you guys are planning on continuing to be sexually active. You could even pick up some condoms for that next sexual encounter. It's a very exciting time for you guys--you can keep it fun and exciting by taking a few steps to make it safe for both of you. Let us know if you need further direction about that.
Good luck!

Thank you Christine, I really appreciate your reply. So it means I cannot be 100% sure that my girlfriend is not pregnant although she have her period just 2 days after the intercourse ? Do i really have to wait another 1 month to see if she missed her period? I really regretted not using birth control as I am unaware of it , I think it's too late for her to use plan B right now. This is really freaking me out, I couldn't sleep for days but at least I found a site for me to share my feelings.

Hi Anonymous,
Yes, you need to wait until her next period to be sure the event did not get her pregnant. And you also are right, emergency contraception only works up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. It is less likely that she will get pregnant from having sex two days before here period, but there is no guarantee that she won't--there actually is never a "safe" time of the month to have unprotected sex. It's best to use protection every time to avoid all the stress you're going through. Sorry for that.

Hey, I'm really scared as I am a virgin nd me nd my bf where playing around, I had my underwear IOn nd he was wearing boxers. He just pressed his penis on me, no inserting but it only lasted for 10 seconds and when I looked down there where wet patches on his boxers. He did not ejaculate but he said it was lubricant cuming out. Like pre-ejaculation and my hymen is not broken. Can I be pregnant?

Hi anonymous,
If you both had clothes on, it went in through your clothes and he didn't ejaculate, there's little chance for you to get pregnant. If there was skin-to-skin (actual penis to vagina contact without clothes) contact, there's a risk. There can be sperm in pre-ejaculate fluid, but without direct contact between his penis and your vagina, the risk is very low for you to get pregnant. If you plan to continue to be sexually active, it may be time to get some condoms, and/or visit with a doctor to get checked out, and learn more about birth control options that may be right for you. Here is an article that may help you learn more about sex:

Good luck and let us know how else we can help you.

Hi Frank,
Birth control pills will only help to prevent pregnancy before it happens, not after. Are the risks gone, you ask? You must wait for a missed period to administer a pregnancy test. If she had her period, you should be safe to say that she is not pregnant. Does that help clear up your questions?

Thanks,
Missie
