May 7, 2009 - 12:42amI got the Mirena put in 16 months ago and my sex drive is non existent. My husband and I went from great sex to fighting every night. It has been a strain on our marriage because I have zero desire to be near him. I've read a lot of blogs online about people having the same symptoms, so I've decided to get mine removed. Theres no point in having this birth control method to prevent pregnancy when you're not even having sex.

After you took it out, did you get your drive back? I've had it in for about 3.5 years currently and no sex drive. I also don't want anything to do with my husband. I thought maybe my drive went down due to age (currently 31). However, I plan on taking it out in April (after a trip) and I really hope it helps. It's the main thing that affects our relationship.

I so agree. I am having the same problem, i was a nympho and now I want nothing to do with sex.:( Did it help your sex drive after you removed it?

I have had the mirena for 3 1/2 years and sex was great, since time has gone by it just seems sex drive is decreasing rapidly and there isn't anything I can do about it. My boyfriend I were doing like everyday and now it's no longer like that just irritated with one another it's really depressing. I'm tired of this "great thing" ruining my life and want a better alternative so that we can enjoy our lives together again instead of fighting all the time.

Some of our members have expressed problems with the Mirena IUD, itself, but more about other side effects.
Have you noticed the change in your libido occurred when you had the IUD inserted? Are there possibly other factors, like stress or anxiety, contributing to your low sex drive?
You might pose your question directly to our panel of Experts in the Reproductive System, and perhaps ask Dr. Klein, in particular, about your low sex drive.
