I have arthritis associated with lupus, and also rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. So, I'm accustomed to dealing with a variety of aches and pains due to these conditions. I'm currently on contract at a State agency and read a wonderful story in this week's newsletter about the agency's Arthritis Program Coordinator.

Over the weekend, my mother casually stated that her arthritis has been bothering her. "What arthritis?" I asked her.

My mother is a very active woman just months away from her 80th birthday. She tries to walk 10,000 steps every day (we once calculated that to be a little over 2 miles for her). She has done 5-10Ks, knits lovely things for people and has beautiful hands with long tapered fingers. When she showed me her fingers, I was shocked that I had not noticed, before, that her knuckles were slightly deformed.

Here's a couple of tips from Harvard on how to keep your hands pain free. And let's face it, most of us don't think about them until they hurt...

I would like to know if my stress from taking care of a wheeelchair and bed bound spouse affect any of my current conditions. I know if I get away for a couple of hours I feel much better, but it tires me out. I could easily sleep most of the day if I had time.
I had serious surgery in Nov 2007 for an ulcer that would not heal so nopw there are medications, such as for Ostoperosis that I can no longer take. Also I can no longer take Celebrex for my arthritis.
Any suggestions for substitutes?
Thanks

East meets West in this extraordinary guide to natural healing by a prominent doctor of Chinese medicine and the author of Secrets of Longevity.

Dr. Mao's philosophy is simple: We all have a built-in healing ability, so why not try to activate it with natural means before we resort to drugs and invasive procedures? For the common cold, why not exploit the power of garlic, ginger, and the herb astragalus instead of taking cold medicine that simply replaces symptoms with side effects?

Winning the Upward Battle Against Lupus/Myositis/Arthritis/Raynaud’s Phenomena

I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease made up of Lupus/Myositis/Arthritis/Raynaud’s Phenomena. The doctors think I have had it since at least 3 months of age, but I was officially diagnosed in 2006 at the age of 21 after several hospital stays lasting months and losing muscle function in the trunk of my body (just one of the many problems that the flare was throwing at me). I am now on a giant list of meds, but am able to walk, eat and spend time with friends and family.
