Fightling insomnia: Heading to the Beauty Salon to take a nap

Since my insomnia is raging at the moment, it was timely that I ran across a story about women and insomnia.

Apparently I don't walk alone. 40 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders and an additional 20 million suffer occasional problems.

Nap pods are a relatively new thing. These are pods to lay in (claustrophobic persons take note: they closely resemble an MRI machine), with vibrations and music, and cost about a dollar a minute to take a nap - safely cocooned in a salon near you!

Hi all -- I wanted to SHARE with you the basic dietary guidelines given to me (with approval to post on the site) by my acupuncturist. I find that the more that I stick to this diet, the better I feel.

AcuHealth
Dietary Guidelines

Eat adequate good protein and good fats, with moderate complex carbohydrates that emphasize vegetables. Good protein sources are wild and low-mercury risk fish or free range chicken, grass fed beef and lamb free of growth hormones and steroids. Other good sources of protein are nuts, seeds, beans, and free-range eggs.

The Unflappable Fan Co.

I started experiencing hot flashes about 5 years ago. Since then, I was always in search of a nice hand fan to use when I was out in public. Not the electric type. They’re a little weird to pull out in a restaurant or theater. I wanted something that was discreet and pretty. I could find a few Asian designs and sandlewood of course. But after a short time, they would fall apart. I said to my husband, Jack, there’s a need for a nice fan. Something I could carry in my purse and not be embarrassed to use. He totally agreed and the whole project began.

Can you get addicted to your prescription medications?

When people think of substance abuse, they automatically think of alcohol and illegal drugs or street dugs, such as cocaine and heroin. What most people are not going to think about are the drugs that are given to people with the permission of their doctor. When people abuse a substance, it is not always something that is illegal. It can be prescription drugs that people, even teenagers, sometimes abuse. In fact, studies show that while pain medication is one of the most abused substances in North America, medications such as cough syrup are often abused by young adults.

The Olympics starts on August 8th at 8PM for a reason. August 8th 2008 is an auspicious date. In Chinese, the number 8 is pronounced “fa” or “ba” (depending on the dialect) which means prosperity. As James Fallows noted in the Atlantic Monthly a year ago, many Chinese couples have been planning weddings for this special 8-8-8 date.

Celebrate and give a boost to your own good luck and prosperity! This is a good day to Celebrate Life!

We will be toasting to prosperity at 8:08PM

In a recent study published in Diabetes Care, it now appears that gum disease may be a predictor for the onset of diabetes.

The study is the most recent in a string of reports linking gum health to over all health. Last year, researchers at Harvard associated periodontal disease with pancreatic cancer.

The Women's Sexual Health Foundation (www.twshf.org) emailed me the link to a fantastic article that I'd like to share....http://www.usnews.com/blogs/on-women/2008/08/05/sex-after-breast-cancer.html

With the recent news of actress Christina Applegate being diagnosed with breast cancer, this article is particularly timely. And, as the article's author eloquently states, as much discussion as there is, there isn't enough being said about the sexual health issues that breast cancer survivors face.

Paying the rent by selling your eggs

I'm not sure how much a man makes by donating his sperm but I think the going rate is somewhere around $50 a pop, give or take.

A woman, however, can make thousands by donating a single egg.

I have read many ads in journals and magazines in my town, looking for women to donate their eggs. The pay range is anywhere from $5000 to $10000 - certainly nothing to sneeze at.

According to CNN, "As the nation's economy is slumping, some fertility clinics say interest in donating has surged.
