What is So Bad about Feeling Sad? Book: "Against Happiness"

A new book, with an attention-grabbing title, "Against Happiness", discusses America's gravitation towards being happy. In fact, there is an entire new profession, that of "positive psychology", related to just this topic. The authors point: what is so bad about being sad?! They discuss the differences between clinical depression (which they are *not* referring to). Why are we so afraid of feeling sadness? Or even feeling, just, melancholy? Are we losing some of our real feelings, those that "generate a deep feeling in regard to some anxiety, a turbulence of heart that results in some active questioning of the status quo", in order to feel happy, content and joy most of the time? I would love to hear your thoughts! I'm still pondering this one; as I'm "all about" the happy, happy, joy, joy books! http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/23590217/
