easy relief for night sweats -- socks!

I recently read in a health magazine that night sweats can be prevented, or at least be not-quite-so-sweaty, if you wear socks to bed. Apparently it has something to do with your warm and cozy feet sending a signal to your central nervous system, but I'm not really sure about the details. (I was walking on a treadmill while reading the magazine and my attention span wasn't all there.)
Anyway, there are a couple of days of the month when I experience night sweats. (Lovely perimenopause!) So I tried wearing socks and it really helped. Not a drop of sweat -- even during these steamy desert nights -- I'm as cool as a cucumber.
I just thought I'd share this, and if anyone knows the scientific reason behind it, please share that too.
:)

My mom always said that wearing socks to bed was bad for your health, to say nothing about being a romance killer. I'm game to try this, although I think "wicking" socks would be best (and, being a runner, I have plenty of those, haha!).
As a matter of fact, I found this: Moisture Wicking Underwear for Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
