ASK

Stacie G.

I have Stage 4 breast cancer. Would Raloxifene be helpful for me?

ASKED by Stacie G. on June 11, 2008 - 10:20am

I read lots in the media about prevention, which is great, but very little about what might help those of us who are already living with cancer. I am (so far) a 7-year survivor, and want to live many more years. I'd like to know if some of these preventive treatments would also be helpful for women like me, and what the new treatments are for us as well.

Lillie Shockney, RN., BS., MAS, University Distinguished Service Assistant Professor of Breast Cancer Administrative Director of Breast Center with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine had this to say ...

Actually Raloxifene hasn't proven helpful for stage 4.... Perhaps not powerful enough of a hormonal therapy? If your disease is stable you may be a candidate for the new vaccine. Let me know if you want to connect with our medical oncolgist here doing it.

I would be very interested in knowing more about the vaccine. Please give me the information I need to connect with your medical oncologist who is using it.

Thank you!

I have read loads of scientific material on the role of hormones on breast cancer. Especially progesterone is important by balancing estrogen, and stimulating a gene p53 prohibiting cancer. See among others this site:

and here:

No harm. Only benefits.
