Glad to hear you had a good experience with your wisdom teeth. I had three different teeth pulled during two extraction sessions. The first one was scheduled to last 10 minutes, but it lasted almost an hour. I had local anaesthesia but probably should've been put under general as my dentist ended up cracking my teeth to pull them. Following the first extraction, I went home and experienced excruciating shooting pains in my head that seemed to originate from one of the extractions. The second experience was much better. The oral surgeon wasn't about to make any decisions for me and a team of nurses helped walk me out the door to my car after I woke up and had a few minutes of rest. My Jell-O legs scared my husband when we got home but I made it in with no issues. The only issue I had with the second round of surgery was with the pain killer that caused some nausea.

While the second experience boosted my confidence in the whole process, I have yet to find an oral surgeon that will pull my final tooth. Had one dentist say he needed to dislocate my jaw (What?! Really?!) and have had two others refer me to other oral surgeons. What part of the country are you in? Would you recommend your dentist to others?

Thanks so much for sharing that. I know a lot of people have to have this done & worry about it & your story will help them out.

Were your wisdom teeth impacted? How long did it take until you were pain-free? I had four fully-impacted wisdom teeth taken out at once. The surgery was successful but I was in a lot of pain for about a week afterward.

Good to hear you had a positive experience with your oral surgery. Mine was the old-fashioned experience after the removal of 3 impacted wisdom teeth: squirrel jowls under ice packs; 3 square meals of jello, jello and more jello, with the occasional herbal tea or clear broth for good measure; not being able to feel my face and laid up in bed for a few days. Not fun, and definitely not pretty.

Later in life, I had to have a couple of teeth removed to make space for the teeth that would be realigned by braces. Recovery time was shorter and the experience more positive.

I remember having to worry about disturbing the blood clot (yeesh). When my daughter recently had her impacted wisdom teeth removed, she had absolutely no problem with the procedure, clotting or recovery. Things have changed quite a bit in 25 years, so I'm not surprised that her experience was so much better.

But, there were no cheeseburgers for either of us, lol!

I had my four impacted wisdom teeth removed along with two premolars about two months ago. All at once. The pain was bad for a week and two holes have filled completely with two more maybe half filled. The holes from my premolars are still enormous but my braces will take care of that in about 7 months.

In January I was fitted for full braces and also had a crown placed over a fractured tooth. And 8 months ago I had a re-root canal with a crown fitted over. Not to mention regular check ups.

I currently have an oral surgeon, a dentist, an orthodontist and an endodontist (root canal specialist). You'd think I was either in a really bad accident or I was J-Lo!

The cost of my mouth in the past 8 months has reached $20,000 of which insurance has paid about $12,000.

Once these braces come out next year, I better have movie star choppers or else! I am so DONE with my teeth!
