Information on Stage 1 Breast Cancer from Dr. Jay Harness, President American Society of Breast Surgeons. St. Joseph Hospital Comprehensive Breast Center.
Dr. Jay Harness: The definition of stage 1 breast cancer is a smaller tumor and the lymph nodes are negative. You know, “what do I mean by a smaller tumor?” That is what is called T1 which is 2 cm in size or smaller T2 which is up to 5 cm in size and T3 which is greater than 5 cm in size. So it is typically than the T1 cancers and there is no spread to the lymph nodes.
Again, the chance of being cured of that type of breast cancer is quite high. Certainly, in excess of 85 percent if we look at the historical data about survival.
