Bunion Surgery Patients Need 6 Weeks Before Driving

THURSDAY, Aug. 28 (HealthDay News) -- The ability to brake suddenly while driving is fully returned six weeks following bunion surgery, researchers say.

A bunion is the bump just below the big toe that can occur when the big toe begins to angle sideways toward the second toe. Bunions can become swollen and painful, sometimes making it hard to walk. In these cases, surgical treatment to realign the bone, ligaments, and tendons may be required.

Flip Flops: Foresaking Feet for Fashion

It's summertime and flip flops are everywhere. They're no longer the fashion faux pas in the increasingly casual workplace (I couldn't resist using the term), and made a splash in the White House (recall the photo with Pres. Bush). While you may love wearing them, and I am first to admit I do, do you know what impact they have on your body?

Is it better to work standing up or sitting down most of the day?

My husband is a Webmaster, and works 8-12 hour days at his computer. He recently read that it is not good to "sit all day", and that standing is a better alternative, as it helps with everything from circulation to being more creative. So now, he STANDS all day at his computer! I remember my first job working retail, and my back and feet would ache from standing all day. So...which is better?

Is there a good balance between "sitting all day" and "standing all day" when at work?

Thanks!

Ankle Fusion - I Know I’m Not Alone

In the last ten years I’ve had surgery eight times on my right ankle. Most of them were ligament reconstructions and finally a complete ankle fusion. Making the decision to fuse my ankle was one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make but with the chronic pain, instability, degenerative arthritis and inflammation I agreed. It’s going to be two years this June and although it’s been a very long recovery and endless hours of physical therapy I can say I’m feeling good about it. One of the biggest challenges is finding shoes that help me walk.
