The Mayo Clinic reports that about twice as many women as men experience depression. Hormones, work overload and sexual abuse are among the factors that may increase a woman's risk of depression. Many women turn to antidepressants to deal with the condition but is medication really the right treatment? The Mayo Clinic offers a general fact sheet on depression and breakdowns on SSRIs, SNRIs and NDRIs.

Physical exercise

Not to downplay depression (at all) but physical exercise can help enormously. I am a believer in taking medication when necessary, but I also know there is a strong link between our physical and mental health. Exercise won't 'cure' depression but I think it should go hand in hand with treatment. Do you know the major signs of depression? Would you recognize any of the symptoms if you had them?
