Hi, my name is Alejandra and I have been suffering from PMDD for a long time and I wanted to share my story with your because just this year I started to take control of my PMDD and feel much much better.

EmpowHer: When a woman shares her health experiences other suffer less and they get to heal quicker. That is why we are featuring Alejandra’s blog. Alejandra is joining us from San Antonio. She has experienced PMDD.

When did you first experience PMDD; which we know is the most severe type of PMS?

Alejandra: I will say that when I was 30 years old it started changing because before that I used to feel okay even having my period, I mean you know a little discomfort here and there but not really bad and after I turned 30 it start changing little by little and then it became a real problem.

EmpowHer: Now before we get too far in the interview could you explain to me when it changed, define that change for me. Was it extreme cramps, was it pain or headaches, what would you define as the change?

Alejandra: It is something that was gradually. I know it was more severe, I felt very tired and feeling emotional.

EmpowHer: Were you very sensitive to other people?

Alejandra: Yeah, very sensitive to anything and everything, but mostly depressed. I would say like really depressed, feeling exhausted and feeling hopeless, feeling just very depressed.

EmpowHer: How long did it take before you said to yourself look this is a big problem? I need to see a doctor?

Alejandra: It has been years because in the beginning I thought it was normal, I started reading books about PMS. I changed my diet and I tried different things but still it got worse year after. It was really scary for me. You know, every month having to look in my calendar to think, it is coming and oh my god.

EmpowHer: Does it ever interfere with your workday?

Alejandra: Absolutely. I was feeling so bad. My feelings were like I just want to die.
