Spring Cleaning: Check Your Medicine Cabinet

Spring is almost here. While "spring cleaning" the rest of your home, take time to check your medicine cabinet for expired remedies, prescriptions and OTC drugs. What should you toss and what should you have on hand in your medicine cabinet. USC Health (University of Southern California) suggests taking inventory of your medicine cabinet, even conducting a "brown bag review" of your prescription medicines with your pharmacist. As my brother-in-law is a respected pharmacist in his area, I'm sure he'd appreciate spreading the word on this topic! Medicine Cabinet Checkup http://www.usc.edu/hsc/healthnow/2007/04...

Spring Cleaning Medicine Cabinet

Great idea! After reading this, I was curious about our prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and we had Tylenol and Advil that expired four years ago! oops! We don't have a "medicine cabinet", and bought a child-proof container to hold our medicine, and keep it on the top shelf. It helps with our peace of mind!

Good points!

Cleaning out a medicine cabinet is very important - not only as a precaution against accidental ingestion but there have been many commercials recently on the fact that many teens and young adults no longer get their 'supply' from a dealer - they simply raid their parents medicine cabinets for unused pain meds or meds for depression. On an odd note - the parents of a babysitter of ours held an open house to sell their home and her Dad's Vicodin was stolen from the medicine cabinet by a person who came to the open house. Apparently this isn't uncommon - drug addicts hitting up open houses that are not vacant, in order to steal medications. Sorry - a little off topic there but, well, maybe not!
