Autistic Children Make Limited Eye Contact

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 6 (HealthDay News) -- While poor eye contact has long been a suspected sign of possible autism, researchers at Yale University have used "eye-mapping technology" to prove that children with autism don't make eye contact like normally developing children do.

Published in the August issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry, the new research found that children with autism spent more time looking at an adult's mouth instead of gazing into the eyes.

National Cancer Institute: Melanoma Rates Soar in Young Women, No Change in Young Men

A study published in the July 10 online edition of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology states that the number of melanoma cases among women has increased 50% between 1980 and 2004, while the rates for men leveled off. The study was conducted on men and women aged 15-39 and suggests that there has been no significant result of skin cancer education upon young women.

Free Medical School? Cleveland Clinic, Others, Trying to Ease Med School Debt

Here’s a new idea – tuition-free med school …. According to the Wall Street Journal, a newly minted doctors owe nearly $140,000 on average in student loans.

So, to help alleviate some of the financial burden that doctors feel out of med school, the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western University will announce today that beginning in July, all incoming students will be awarded full scholarships to cover their estimated $43,500 tuition.
