Francine Hardaway: Natural Causes

I’m reading the new expose of the vitamin and supplement industry, “Natural Causes,” by Dan Hurley. For someone who doesn’t have much faith in the medical establishment, this book is a real bummer. Now I can’t have any faith in the natural remedies, either. Hurley tells the story of the original “snake oil,” and exposes Adele Davis (whose nutrition advice I followed when I was pregnant). According to him, Adele Davis heavily footnoted all her books to make herself look knowledgeable and scholarly.

Multivitamins: Good for You or Waste of Money?

Do you take multivitamins? If so, why? Are they beneficial, or a waste of money? I thought this would be a good discussion, as it is something taken for granted, and is not seen as "something else we're putting in our body, whether we need them or not", as other substances are (healthy or not). Please note: I am not referring to anyone who has been given a recommendation by a health care provider to take a vitamin supplement, such as pregnant women who are recommended to take folic acid.

Have you ever experienced what you thought was sensitivity to skin care products, or battled some sort of condition, other than acne, that baffled you? Do you think you have a good skin care regimen, and one that you're teaching your children? Good skin care is more than washing your face and slathering on some moisturizer. It's a matter of using the right product for the condition, as well as a healthy eating regimen and lifestyle. There are also vitamins and vitamin-enriched products to help promote healthy skin. We look forward to hearing your story!
