I think it's wonderful that parents are asking more questions of their children's pediatricians and do not follow medical recommendations blindly.
But doctors now fear that parents fears of a link between autism and vaccinations may be causing an increase in measles, as well as potentially causing an increase in other diseases or viruses.
From a CNN report, it says "measles cases in the U.S. are at the highest level in more than a decade, with nearly half of those involving children whose parents rejected vaccination, health officials reported Thursday.

Also, with more medical information available at the click of a button on the Web, we have become a nation of “cyberchondriacs” diagnosing ourselves with false information and half-truths.

WASHINGTON - The Institute of Medicine said in 2004 there was no credible evidence to show that vaccines containing the preservative thimerosal led to autism in children. But thousands of families have a different take based on personal experience.
Some of them are going to court Monday as attorneys will attempt to show that the mercury-based preservative triggers symptoms of autism.

At most Universities, and I assume other educational public institutions, it is mandatory for students to receive certain vaccines. There are waivers for religious or medical reasons that will allow the student to be on that campus without receiving the required immunizations.

Here's an interesting story out of Europe ... Parents may be jailed over vaccinations. Do you agree with this? Should the government be able to control the health of its citizens? Should parents be able to control the health of their children?

LONDON - As doctors struggle to eradicate polio worldwide, one of their biggest problems is persuading parents to vaccinate their children. In Belgium, authorities are resorting to an extreme measure: prison sentences.
Two sets of parents in Belgium were recently handed five month prison terms for failing to vaccinate their children against polio. Each parent was also fined 4,100 euros ($8,000).
