Fact: Caffeine (withdrawal) can cause headaches
Fact: Caffeine is used in medicine to relieve headaches
Question: How can two seemingly opposite statements be true?
Answer: The dosage, or amount, of caffeine used/consumed, may be the reason that both “facts” can be true (although this is debatable among experts).
Caffeine is a common ingredient in many over-the-counter (OTC) headache medications. The reason? Caffeine additives make pain relievers 40% more effective in treating headaches, and helps the body absorb the medication more quickly.

Did you know that laughter sends a tidal wave effect that engulfs our cerebral cortex?
Laughter directly stimulates endorphins which is our body's pain killer.
After we laugh, the body's blood pressure actually decreases dramatically where we
can actually feel more relaxed.
So if you are depressed, in pain or just in need of a good laugh, do it! It is actually a great stimulant for our brains and causes a relaxing sensation throughout our bodies.

THURSDAY, Aug. 21 (HealthDay News) -- If your child won't take medicine and shuns broccoli at the dinner table, his body may just be hard-wired to respond that way.
"Kids reject the bad taste of medicine, because it's basic biology. Their system is designed to reject that taste, because many toxic substances are bitter and distasteful," explained taste researcher Julie Mennella, from the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia.
Mennella is presenting the latest findings on bitter taste and children Thursday at the American Chemical Society meeting in Philadelphia.

WASHINGTON - Many people in Medicare with diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic conditions stop taking their medicine when faced with picking up the entire cost of their prescriptions, researchers say.
About 3.4 million older and disabled people hit a gap, known as the doughnut hole, in their Medicare drug coverage in 2007. When that happened, they had to pay the entire costs of their medicine until they spent $3,850 out of pocket. Then, insurance coverage would kick in again.

A few weeks ago, I finished up a great book called the Light at the Edge of the World by Wade Davis, Harvard’s star ethnobotanist who spent time with indigenous cultures in Tibet, Kenya, the Amazon, Canada and the Andes.
The core of Davis’s book is that these cultures along with their thoughts, beliefs and knowledge, especially their knowledge of plants and nature -- are being eliminated in the name of progress – although Davis would clearly never call it that.

Migraines run in my family. My mom and sister get them, and I never understood their agony until I got my first migraine last year. I was astonished that a headache could also lead to stomachache, being unable to stand upright, to be near *any* light, blurred vision...it's scary!
Luckily, I don't get them very often. When I do, I take OTC that is specifically for migraines (however, I did compare the label, and the "migraine" version was no different from the "extra strength").
