This article reports on a JCO study finding that 40 percent of men with advanced tongue and tonsil cancers were infected with human papillomavirus (HPV). The study's lead author is quoted recommending that the HPV vaccine be considered for male adolescents. The article also mentions another JCO study, which found that people with tumors having high HPV levels were more likely to respond to treatment.

Now researchers are finding that many oral cancers in men are also associated with the virus.

I was reading the news link on Empowher, regarding the moral objections to the HPV vaccination.
Many parents will not allow their girls to have the vaccination because they believe it will encourage them to have sex. Since behaviors like smoking leads to cancers, so having sex leads to HPV. Both are behaviors that are preventable, say the objectors to this vaccine.

A newly published study links the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus, or HPV, to lung cancer, adding lungs to the list of organs scientists say are susceptible to cancer as a result of contracting the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States.
Recent studies have found connections between HPV and cancers of the mouth and throat, but the University of Louisville study released late last week is the first to associate the infection with lung cancer.

FRIDAY, April 25 (HealthDay News) -- Although smoking is well-established as an independent risk factor for lung cancer, two new studies suggest that two different viral infections might boost a smoker's already substantial risk for developing the disease.
